FAQs
1. So what is this ‘Legalize’?
Legalize is a surrogate marketing event. You are expected to make an advertisement (video, audio jingle or a print campaign) and send it to us.
For more information on surrogate advertising and a few ready examples, use Google. One basic articles that explains the concept can be found athttp://www.wisegeek.com/what-is-surrogate-advertising.htm]
2. Great! So what should the advertisement contain and how long can it be?
For the second part of your question, the video or audio jingle can be of a maximum duration of 90 seconds. In case it you make a print campaign, please make a minimum of four advertisements, preferably in jpeg formats.
As for what the ad can contain, let us answer it by telling you what it cannot contain: the video cannot contain vulgarity (including but not limited to pejoratives, skin display, unacceptable gestures, etc.) and direct references to the product. (To put it simply, stick to the definition of surrogate marketing)
3. Okay, but I still have a basic doubt. What should the ad contain? What am I trying to advertise?
Surrogate advertising is traditionally used by products for which direct advertising is not permitted- often by law (like cigarettes, alcohol etc.) and occasionally by society as well. However, we will not limit your imagination and you are allowed to choose any product of your liking, whether it is a taboo or not permitted by law. You may even select a social cause or issue as your topic.
However, please note that you are not allowed to use the name of any existing brands in these categories. You are free to make up your own brand name.
4. What do I do after completing the advertisement?
First you need to mail your ad to maxi@xlri.ac.in. The mail should have “Legalize Entry” as the subject. Please mention the name of your team and team members in the mail body along with your institute details.
Make sure your file starts with your team name. In case you are sending a print campaign, please put all the images in a rar or zip folder before mailing us.
We will upload it on the Facebook page of MAXI (www.facebook.com/maxi.at.xlri) within 8 hrs of receiving it. Your job is to get the maximum number of people to like your ad on the page before the deadline.
5. So how will the winners be decided?
Winners will be primarily judged by eminent industry experts and XLRI marketing faculty. The profile of the judges will be declared soon. For your final score, significant weights will be given to quality of videos, number of YouTube views and number of Facebook likes. The likes obtained by the teams on Facebook will be normalized to avoid any extreme biases.
6. Okay...so am I expected to design this campaign alone? I don’t know how to handle the camera!
You are expected to work in teams. The maximum team size is restricted to 4. However, any number of people can act in the video.
7. So who all can take part in Legalize?
The competition is open to all students of any full time program at recognized institutes across the world. You may be enrolled in a UG or PG course, it doesn't matter.
Team members can also be from different institutes. In fact, we encourage diversity. Just mention your team name and details of all the team members when sending your submission.
8. And what about those whooshing deadlines?
You can start preparing right away. We will start accepting the entries from 5th November 2014 and freeze entries on November 30th 2014, 23:59 hrs. Results will be declared around mid-December.
9. So, what do I get for all the effort?
