Today is World Video Games Day. Way Back in 1958
Physicist William Higinbotham created what is thought to be the first video game. It was a very simple tennis game, similar to the classic 1970s video game Pong,
Since then, games have just grown, and grown and grown. You have arcade games, desktop games, console games, mobile games, and more.
While many people - generally elders - see computer games as a waste of time and effort . Many say that there will be adverse health efforts, especially hand and eye strain if you play games. Both these statements hold true, if you play computer games 24*7. In fact, some level of computer games is considered beneficial not just for relaxation, but also improvement of hand eye co-ordination, problem solving, and more.
The University of Toronto study discovered people who play action video games such as Call of Duty or Assassin’s Creed seem to learn a new sensorimotor skill more quickly than non-gamers do.A new sensorimotor skill, such as learning to ride a bike or typing, often requires a new pattern of coordination between vision and motor movement. With such skills, an individual generally moves from novice performance, characterised by a low degree of coordination, to expert performance, marked by a high degree of coordination.
Here are three great games that can improve you ability to learn skills more quickly
Call of Duty
Call of Duty is a series of first person shoot out games. The games follow British and American soldiers as they take on various enemies. The game is not just about shooting and killing the enemy, but thinking through how to defeat them best. How to pick up extra supplies, arms, and build alliances. It not just helps you react faster, but also helps thinking.
Counter Strike
Counter strike is another first person shoot out game. In this game
Two opposing teams—the Terrorists and the Counter Terrorists—compete in game modes to complete objectives, such as securing a location to plant or defuse a bomb and rescuing or guarding hostages. At the end of each round, players are rewarded based on their individual performance with in-game currency to spend on more powerful weapons in subsequent rounds. Winning rounds results in more money than losing, and completing objectives such as killing enemy players gives cash bonuses.
There are many other games in this space, Assassin’s creed, Far Cry, Bio Shock, and more.
Tetris
is a great game to learn spatial relations, speed, and patterns. It is available on android (and apple) and you can spend hours having fun with it.
Try not to spend more than an hour at a time (2 hours in a day) on computer games, if you want them to help you grown.
